Aegis is built on four open standards published by the Terrene Foundation and licensed under Creative Commons (CC BY 4.0). Together they answer four questions: why govern agents, how to structure authority, how to prove trust, and how to orchestrate the whole system. Aegis is the commercial platform that turns all four into running code.
CARE — the Collaborative Autonomous Reflective Enterprise — frames the relationship between people and agents. Its core idea is the Dual Plane Model: a Trust Plane where humans hold intent and accountability, and an Execution Plane where agents do the work.
People. Intent, accountability, the authority to delegate.
Agents. Plans, actions, tool calls — all observable.
The two planes mirror each other: what the Trust Plane authorizes, the Execution Plane carries out — and Aegis checks one against the other continuously.
PACT — Principled Architecture for Constrained Trust — is the shape of the organization. It models the enterprise as one addressable tree of Departments, Teams and Roles, where containers never decide and people always do.
Each envelope is the intersection of every envelope above it. A child can only ever be more constrained than its parent — never less.
EATP — the Enterprise Agent Trust Protocol — is the wire format for trust. Every agent carries a verifiable lineage of five elements, so any action can be traced back to the human authority that permitted it.
Lowercase, by design. Postures are earned upward through demonstrated performance and dropped downward the instant conditions change.
CO — Cognitive Orchestration — is the operating methodology that ties the other three together. It is how intent becomes governed work, how institutional knowledge compounds, and how the enterprise grows steadily more cognitive over time.
Turn intent and org structure into an executable shape.
Hand work to agents inside a constrained envelope.
Watch execution against the trust it was granted.
Feed what was learned back into the next cycle.
The specifications are open and belong to the Terrene Foundation. Aegis is a proprietary platform that implements them — a clean separation that lets the standards stay neutral while the product moves fast.

Adopting Aegis does not lock you out of the standards. The specifications remain openly licensed — Aegis simply makes them real, governed, and operable at enterprise scale.
